Our Focus Areas

The Lawyers’ Committee for Rhode Island was created in response to government overreach that exceeds the law, grounded in the belief that lawyers have both the tools and the responsibility to act when people, organizations, and institutions are affected.

We identify and respond to legal issues affecting nonprofits, communities, and public institutions across Rhode Island. We focus on emerging risks, from federal funding disruptions to immigration, education and civil rights issues, and organize our work through issue-specific working groups.

Coordinated Action

We stay in close communication with communities and organizations so we understand impacts as they occur and can respond quickly. We also work with national legal partners, including the ACLU and Democracy Forward, to ensure our efforts reflect current legal strategy.

Our work is carried out by trained volunteer attorneys alongside two full-time litigation attorneys who lead and coordinate the effort.
